Sowore Accuses Ned Nwoko, IGP Egbetokun of Orchestrating Unlawful Detention of Regina Daniels’ Brother, Sammy West

Human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has accused Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, of allegedly using state power to unlawfully imprison Samuel Ojeogwu, popularly known as Sammy West, who is the younger brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels.
In a statement released on Thursday, Sowore claimed that the influential politician and businessman conspired with what he described as “an illegal Inspector General of Police” to have Sammy West detained at the Keffi Correctional Centre under questionable circumstances.
> “I have again been informed that the so-called criminal billionaire and APC Senator, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, has used his influence, working hand-in-glove with the illegal Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to have a young man unjustly imprisoned at the notorious Keffi prison,” Sowore stated.
He further alleged that the detention was politically motivated and part of a pattern of abuse of power involving Nwoko, sections of the Nigeria Police Force, and what he termed “pliant magistrates.”
> “It is deeply unfortunate that the unholy alliance of impunity between Senator Prince Ned Nwoko, sections of the Nigeria Police Force, and some pliant magistrates continues to thrive despite our persistent challenge to their lawlessness,” he said.
Sowore called for the immediate release of Sammy West, describing his imprisonment as an “act of tyranny.”
> “I therefore call on the Nigeria Police Force authorities to immediately put an end to this brigandage and to release Sammy West forthwith by withdrawing the bogus charges leveled against him,” he added.
As of the time of this report, neither Senator Ned Nwoko nor the Nigeria Police Force has issued an official response to Sowore’s allegations.
The situation has drawn public attention due to the high-profile individuals involved — Nwoko, a senator and businessman, and Regina Daniels, a well-known actress and Nwoko’s estranged wife.
