Sowore Blasts Nigerian Leadership, Says True Redemption Lies in Honest Governance, Not Foreign Help

Abuja, Nigeria — Human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has once again condemned Nigeria’s leadership failures, declaring that the nation should have long been designated as a “Country of Concern” due to its persistent inability to protect its citizens from violence, hunger, and systemic corruption.

In a strongly worded statement shared under the hashtag #RevolutionNow, Sowore decried the deteriorating state of security and governance in the country, accusing leaders at every level of neglecting their constitutional duty to safeguard the lives and dignity of Nigerians.

> “Nigeria should have long been cited as a Country of Concern for its persistent failure to protect its citizens,” Sowore said. “At every level, the state has failed to safeguard the vulnerable—Christians, Muslims, and traditional believers alike; children, women, students, workers, and the elderly have all suffered under the weight of corruption and illegitimate leadership.”

The activist acknowledged the pain and suffering endured by various communities across the nation, highlighting the ongoing persecution and attacks in different regions.

> “I recognize the pain of the Christian communities in Benue, Plateau, Gombe, and Kaduna, who continue to face relentless attacks, just as the Muslim populations in Katsina, Zamfara, Borno, and Yobe also need protection from marauding killers,” he said. “Across the nation, Nigerians whipped by hunger, poverty, and displacement cry out for safety and dignity.”

While noting that international attention or special designations might temporarily ease suffering in some areas, Sowore maintained that the real solution lies in internal transformation, led by leaders who are genuinely accountable and people-centered.

> “While international attention or special designations might bring temporary relief to some communities, the real solution lies within honest, courageous leadership that values human life and justice above politics,” he said.

Sowore, who has been a vocal critic of successive administrations, urged Nigerians to realize that their liberation cannot come from foreign powers, but through collective action and responsible leadership.

> “Nigerians must understand that the true solution lies in real leadership, not in outside help. No foreign power can fix what corrupt and careless leaders have broken from within,” he stated. “Our redemption will come from visionary, accountable, and people-centered leadership, one that protects its citizens, unites its people, and rebuilds the nation from the ground up.”

Sowore’s comments add to growing calls for reform as insecurity, economic hardship, and political distrust continue to fuel discontent across the country.
