Sowore Blasts Trump Over Threat to Invade Nigeria, Says ‘Our Deliverance Won’t Come from Abroad’

By Passman Akpos

Human rights activist and presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has strongly condemned the recent statement by U.S. President Donald J. Trump, who threatened to launch military action in Nigeria, allegedly to protect Christians.

In a statement shared on his social media page, Sowore warned Nigerians against welcoming or celebrating such rhetoric, describing it as “dangerous” and “historically disastrous.”

> “The latest threat by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to launch military action in Nigeria, allegedly to protect Christians, may sound appealing to some. Still, history has shown this to be perilous,” Sowore said.

He argued that U.S. interventions in other parts of the world have often left countries more unstable, citing the examples of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria, where foreign military action failed to secure peace or democracy.

> “Whether you are Christian, Muslim, animist, or non-religious, no one should celebrate such rhetoric. The United States and its allies have a long record of military interventions that leave nations more unstable than before,” he added.

According to Sowore, Nigeria’s problems cannot be solved by external powers but through accountable leadership and internal reform.

> “What Nigeria truly needs is not a foreign savior, but legitimate, accountable leadership—one that protects all citizens, upholds justice, and ends the cycles of corruption and violence that have left the nation broken.”

Taking a direct swipe at President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Sowore stated that the nation’s renewal must come from within, not from politicians he described as part of the problem.

> “@realDonaldTrump does not care about Nigerians—not Christians, Muslims, or anyone else. Our deliverance will never come from abroad; it must come from within, through real leadership (not the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s of this world) and national renewal,” Sowore wrote, ending with the hashtag #RevolutionNow.

Trump’s remarks, which have sparked mixed reactions across Nigeria and the international community, follow reports of continued religious violence in parts of the country. However, many analysts warn that any foreign military involvement could worsen insecurity and undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty.
