Sowore to Be Arraigned Monday Over Statement Alleging President Tinubu Is a Criminal

Human rights activist and publisher, Omoyele Sowore, is expected to be arraigned on Monday, October 27, on charges related to his recent statement alleging that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a criminal.
According to official sources, the charge stems from Sowore’s public remarks accusing the president of corruption and criminal conduct. Authorities say the activist will be required to provide evidence substantiating his claim — specifically, to show “what the president has stolen from him or anyone else.”
The case, which has sparked widespread public debate, is seen by many as a test of freedom of expression and the limits of political criticism in Nigeria. Supporters of Sowore argue that the charges are politically motivated and aimed at silencing dissent, while government officials insist that no one is above the law, including critics who make unverified accusations.
Legal analysts note that if found guilty, Sowore could face penalties under laws governing defamation or false information against public officials.
As of Sunday evening, Sowore’s legal team has not released an official statement, but sources close to him suggest he intends to “vigorously defend his right to speak truth to power.
The arraignment is scheduled to take place at a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday morning.
