Nigeria’s Surveyor-General of the Federation Mr Abuduganiyu Adebomehin, has been elected, Chairman, Governing Council of the African Institute for Geospatial Information Science and Technology (AFRIGIST) for a 2-year tenure.
Adebomehin was elected during the 55th meeting of the council held at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State.
Tarakirivoice reports that, Adebomehin as a representative of the Nigerian government will steer the council’s leadership for the next two years.
In a statement issued to newsmen by Mr Sani Datti, Head Press and Public Relations, Office of the Surveyor-General on Sunday in Abuja, the election signified Nigeria’s leadership role in advancing geospatial information system across Africa.
Datti said the election underscored the country’s commitment to fostering regional collaboration and development in the critical field.
He said, Adebomehin, in an acceptance speech appreciated the Council and the outgoing chairman for their commitment to the body over the year.
“On behalf of Nigerian government, I want to assure you and hope that my tenure will be a highly successful one that you will be proud of,” he said
The new chairman pledged to serve the council with integrity and guided by the laid down procedure of the institute.
The Surveyor-General urged member-states to cooperate with Nigeria and ensure success of the institute.
”The institute will witness infrastructure improvement to meet the growing demands of its students and faculty, providing a conducive environment for learning and research” he said.
NAN reports that, AFRIGIST is a bilingual and inter-government joint institutions of Francophone and Anglophone countries in Africa.
AFRIGIST member-states includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Liberia.
