An Osogbo Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Friday remanded three men, Wasiu Ayantunde, Adewale Ademola, and Biodun Afolabi, in a correctional centre for alleged possession of illicit drug.
Ayantunde, 50, Ademola, 40, Afolabi, 23, are facing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful possession and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Asp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Dec. 19, 2024, at 7.00 a.m., at Modakeke, Ife East area office.
He said that the defendants had some dry weeds suspected to be Indian hemp in their possession, which they could not give satisfactory account of how they came about it.
According to him, the defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by causing chaos in the town.
The prosecutor stated that the offences contravened Sections 249(d), 430(1) and 517 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the three counts.
The defence counsel, Mr Mudasiru Raheem, pleaded for the bail of the defendants on most liberal terms.
He promised that his clients would not jump bail, but would provide responsible sureties.
Magistrate Kikelomo Adebayo, did not grant the bail of the defendants, but ordered for their remand at Ile-Ife Correctional Centre.
Adebayo adjourned the case until Jan 7 for ruling on bail.
