Tragedy: Husband commits suicide after killing wife with hammer in Bayelsa

Residents of okutukutu area of yenagoa, today, woke up to sadness as a middle age man, took his own life after killing his wife.
The man, Mr Patrick Markson, who is from Onopa, and his wife, Hannah, who is from Okotiama in Yenagoa local government area were found dead in their house at the Odede street, opposite the popular Honni Hills hotels, at Ammassoma-Yenagoa road, Yenagoa.
According to eyewitnesses, the husband, may have killed his wife by hitting her with a huge hammer on the head before drinking sniper as he was seen going out and coming in at the early hours of Thursday 26, August 2021.
According a friend of the deceased, Mr victor kubor,said though they (Patrick and Hannah) were having some marital issues but wondered what might triggered the husband from taking such action in a marriage that has produced six children.
He said, “The couples are my friend, they’re like brother and sister to me. When I heard the news I was very surprised because it’s something that is uncalled for. They were having marital issues because two weeks ago, I was here when he (deceased husband) complained to me but I told him to take it easy and come so we can talk but unfortunately, he didn’t show up for us to settle their trouble.
“They have a 22 year old, who is going to Niger Delta University, so I see no reason why these couples would commit this kind of act, it’s unfortunate,” he added.
While recounting her last ordeal with the couple before the tragic incident, the elder sister of the deceased wife, Mrs Boufuru Timipre, said “Yesterday (Wednesday), the husband called me and asked if his wife (her sister) is close by and i said yes, wait let me go and put her on the call but when i got there and called back, the husband’s line wasn’t connecting again. Then, he later called me on the phone and asked me to tell her to come garri and I said OK.
“Two of my children accompany the deceased wife to their house before they came back. My late sister’s son called me early this morning and was agitating for me to come the house and I asked what happened and he said, he’s Mum and Dad are lying dead.
“So, when I got here, I saw the hammer he used in hitting her and the empty sniper bottle he drank with the couples dead bodies on the bed.
Other neighbors and family members stated that though, they could not ascertain what really happened, however, noted the deceased couples were described as quiet and peaceful family.
Spokesman of the Bayelsa state police command has confirmed the incident and evacuated the corpse.
