N’Delta Group accuses Senate of hijacking NDDC for personal gain

By Peregba Jerry

The Niger Delta Patriotic Council has accused the Nigerian Senate of hijacking the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for personal gain.

In a statement signed by President Adolphus Pereladei and Secretary-General Oghenero Efemena, the group alleged that the Senate has prioritized its leaders’ interests over the region’s development.

The council claimed that the Senate has been awarding NDDC contracts to themselves and their allies, rather than utilizing funds for regional development.

They urged NDDC Managing Director Dr. Sam Ogbuku to resist Senate pressure and focus on regional growth. The group also appealed to the President to intervene and ensure the NDDC serves its intended purpose.

After an emergency meeting in Warri, Delta State, they emphasized that the NDDC board is hindered from delivering growth due to these individuals’ contract monopolization.

The council called on Niger Delta leaders to protect the region’s patrimony and stand up against this exploitation.

The statement read, “After an emergency meeting in Warri, Delta State, we resolved that a few persons have hijacked the NDDC for their selfish interests, against the entire people of the region.

“These individuals are not allowing the NDDC board to deliver growth and development to the region because they are the ones collecting all the major contracts from the commission.

“The Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr Sam Ogbuku, is not even allowed to do his work because these powerful individuals are putting him under pressure to always service their interests, and he has no choice but to comply.

“We are calling on all well-meaning Niger Delta leaders to stand up and protect our common patrimony.”
