Tinubu Set to Conclude Ambassadorial Appointments After Months of Diplomatic Vacuums

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to conclude the appointment of ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions worldwide after months of diplomatic gaps and mounting pressure over the nation’s absence of envoys in several countries.
Since the recall of all Nigerian ambassadors in 2023, many of the country’s embassies and high commissions have operated without substantive heads, leading to concerns about weakened diplomatic representation and coordination in foreign affairs.
According to sources in the Presidency, the new ambassadorial list — comprising both career diplomats and political appointees — has reached an advanced stage and will soon be forwarded to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
The move comes amid growing calls from Nigerians in the diaspora, business communities, and foreign partners for the restoration of effective diplomatic leadership. Analysts have warned that the prolonged absence of ambassadors has limited Nigeria’s ability to advance its strategic interests and protect its citizens abroad.
President Tinubu, who has prioritized foreign investment and international cooperation under his Renewed Hope agenda, is expected to use the appointments to strengthen bilateral relations and project Nigeria’s image globally.
Observers say the completion of the ambassadorial appointments would mark a critical step in reasserting Nigeria’s diplomatic presence and rebuilding confidence among international partners.
