Tompolo Denies Issuing Ultimatum to Federal Government Over Nnamdi Kanu’s Detention

By Paul Ebi

The camp of High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has strongly refuted circulating social media reports and videos alleging that the ex-militant leader issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to release detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement released by Apostle Bodmas Prince Kemepadei, Chairman of the Izon Cultural Heritage Centre (ICHC), the group described the claims as “false, misleading, and mischievous,” warning the public against falling for deliberate attempts to spread misinformation and cause unnecessary tension.

> “High Chief Tompolo has no hand in such statements, neither has he made nor authorized any ultimatum concerning the said matter,” the statement read. “These falsehoods are the handiwork of mischief-makers and attention seekers attempting to exploit his name and influence for their own agenda.”

The statement emphasized that Tompolo’s advocacy has always been centered on peace, unity, and the development of the Niger Delta region, particularly through lawful engagements with relevant authorities to protect national assets. It further clarified that Tompolo’s activities and ideology are not in any way linked to the movement or cause of Nnamdi Kanu.

Apostle Kemepadei urged Nigerians, the media, and social commentators to disregard the viral videos and unverified reports, describing them as “baseless insinuations designed to misinform the public.”

> “High Chief Government Ekpemupolo remains committed to the path of peace, dialogue, and nation-building, and will not be distracted by propaganda from those who believe using his name will serve their ulterior motives,” he added.

The clarification comes amid a surge of misinformation on social media platforms linking various regional figures to national political issues, prompting calls for greater media responsibility and public verification of online content before dissemination.
