In a post on his social media platform, Trump said Mamdani’s victory was “proof that the Democrats have completely lost control of their own party,” claiming that the left-wing movement within the party had “taken over what used to be moderate Democrats.”
“Democrats are getting what they deserve,” Trump wrote. “They spent years attacking conservatives and calling everyone extremists — now their own radical wing is running the show in New York. Total chaos!”
Mamdani, a state legislator of Ugandan-Indian descent and longtime advocate for social justice, ran on a platform focused on housing, economic equality, and police accountability. His victory has been described as a political upset that defied powerful interests and a well-funded campaign against him.
