Nigeria’s ongoing battle against insecurity has received a strong show of support from two major world powers—the United States and France—following a series of high-level engagements in Abuja.
In a post on X, U.S. Congressman Riley Moore described his visit to Nigeria as “very productive” and spiritually significant.“I came to Nigeria in the name of the Lord and on behalf of the American people,” Moore wrote, announcing the end of his visit while promising further details: “Happy Sunday. God is Great!”
Moore did not reveal which Nigerian officials he met, but National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu later confirmed hosting a U.S. Congressional delegation as part of ongoing bilateral security consultations.
> “This reflects the importance both nations attach to this engagement,” Ribadu stated, noting that U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills was present at the meeting.
According to Ribadu, key issues discussed included counter-terrorism cooperation, regional stability, and strengthening the strategic security partnership between both nations.
> “I’m optimistic this engagement will deepen trust, collaboration, and shared commitment to peace and security,” he added.
The diplomatic outreach coincides with Washington’s recent re-designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious freedom violations—a claim the Nigerian government has rejected, saying the nation’s security crisis affects all citizens, irrespective of religion.
Meanwhile, a parallel show of solidarity came from Europe.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he spoke with President Bola Tinubu regarding Nigeria’s worsening security situation, especially the escalating terrorist threat in the North.
> “I conveyed France’s solidarity in the face of the various security challenges,” Macron wrote on X.
He revealed that at Tinubu’s request, France would intensify support both for Nigeria’s authorities and affected communities, urging other global partners to do the same.
> “No one can remain a spectator,” the French President declared.
With mounting international attention and renewed commitments from major allies, Nigeria’s search for lasting peace and security appears to be entering a critical phase—one marked by diplomacy, collaboration, and strategic global engagement.
