Tarakrivoice reports that the donation, made through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), was received by the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) on behalf of the federal government.
Richard Mills, USAID ambassador in Nigeria, emphasized the importance of domestic resource mobilization to secure additional vaccines.
“We are pleased to know that this is a timely donation that will reach the affected areas across the country and those who are most vulnerable to mpox infection,” he said.
The federal government has prioritized five states with the highest burden of mpox cases, and the vaccines will be administered to high-risk individuals, including close contacts of cases and frontline healthcare workers.
Mills assured that the vaccines are safe, having undergone clinical trials and approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
