“3-Day Lockdown for One Ceremony—Is This Governance or Grandstanding? As Yemi Osinbajo Arrives to Commission Project”

Residents and road users in Bayelsa State have been notified of a temporary closure of the newly completed Agbura-Oxbow Lake Road as preparations intensify for its official commissioning.

In a public notice issued by the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, ESV Moses Teibowei, the road will be closed to all vehicular movement from 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, through Monday, April 20, 2026.

According to the statement, the closure is to facilitate final clean-up operations and ensure the road is in optimal condition for the commissioning ceremony scheduled for Monday. Motorists, including commercial tipper drivers, have been advised to make use of alternative routes during the period.

The highlight of the event will be the formal commissioning by Nigeria’s former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, who is expected to lead other dignitaries at the ceremony.

The state government also extended an open invitation to all Bayelsans and members of the public to attend the event, describing it as a significant milestone in ongoing infrastructure development efforts.

Officials expressed appreciation for the anticipated cooperation of residents and road users, noting that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to ensure a successful and hitch-free commissioning ceremony.
