“Tinubu’s 2027 Dream Shakes As Arewa APC Block Pulls Out Support In Kano State”

By Passman Akpos

A major political shake-up is brewing within Nigeria’s ruling party following a dramatic announcement by the Kano State chapter of the Arewa APC Forum, which has formally withdrawn its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

In a strongly worded press statement issued on April 17, 2026, and signed by its chairman, Dr Sallah Hakilu Kibiya, the group said its decision came after “extensive consultations and careful reflection” on the current state of governance at the federal level.

The Forum did not hold back in its criticism, accusing the administration of being “widely criticised for nepotism, incompetence, and corruption,” adding that it could no longer, “in good conscience,” continue to support the President’s re-election bid.

The development signals growing internal discontent within the All Progressives Congress, particularly in the northern region, which played a decisive role in the party’s electoral victories in recent years.

According to the statement, the Forum stressed that leadership must inspire public confidence, uphold fairness, and demonstrate a genuine commitment to national unity and institutional integrity—values it believes are being eroded under the current administration.

“Where these values are persistently undermined, silence becomes complicity,” the statement declared, in what observers describe as one of the most direct rebukes yet from within pro-APC northern blocs.

The Forum further advised its members to align their future political engagements with the new position, effectively signaling a potential shift in political alliances ahead of the next general election cycle.

Political analysts say the move could have far-reaching implications for the ruling party’s cohesion and electoral strategy, particularly in key northern states like Kano State, a traditional stronghold with significant voting power.

While there has been no immediate official response from the presidency or the APC national leadership, the announcement is expected to intensify debates over governance, accountability, and internal party democracy across the country.

As Nigeria inches closer to another election season, this development raises critical questions about loyalty, performance, and the future direction of leadership at the highest level.
