The call for restructuring is not a call for disintegration – Passman tells Buhari

Mobile Category

Yenagoa – A political/social Analyst, a Journalist, Founder/CEo  Tarakiri Voice Newspaper, Mr Passman Akpos, writes president Buhari on the need to restructure the country, stating that the call for restructure is not a call for disintegration.

The mediapreneur in a statement signed by him made available to Tarakiri Voice Newspaper on Sunday  June 27, 2021, noted that is a first class mistake to call any citizen a second class citizen.

The statement reads in part

“No human being is an island, were your strength end that is the starting point of another. Every one of us needs each other to grow, the North needs the south to grow and so the south needs the North to grow also.

Nigeria is like human body, the hand cannot tell the eyes, that it’s more important, because it does the whole work; don’t forget the eyes have to see for the hands to work. No region, part or ethnicity is more important than others. The strength and greatness of Nigeria lies in our diversity, the earlier we understand this, the better for us.

Any one calling the component or ethnicities that made up the Nigeria state a second class citizen, either in word or in action is calling for a first class mistake.

Those calling for restructuring of the Nigeria state  has never made mistake, of cause they have studied and seen the largeness of the country, that there is the need to structure the country into unit, so that, the political and economic reach can be easily access by the people in the unit.

It takes me land and water to get to my village from Bayelsa state capital, Yenagoa. I had to spend up to six thousand Naira to get to my village, using both vehicle and boat.

My village, Egbemo-Angalabiri in Ekeremor Local Government Area, is an oil rich community that daily feed the Nigeria state with barrels of crude oil that amount to thousands of Dollars but the dividend of what sit under our soil that feed the Nigeria state is not felt in my community Egbemo-Angalabiri.

President Buhari never Knew that one community exist in Nigeria, that is called Egbemo-Angalabiri that produces oil. All he knows is that there is oil in the land of Niger Delta.

If Nigeria is restructured, and is manned base on the different unit that made up the country and these units grows on their own pace then send contributions in form of taxes to the central Government for purposes of security and external aggression , this nation will be peaceful as water.

The human mind is structured in a manner in which is always agitated when felt cheated by others.

Currently, different groups are agitating for secession because they felt the one Nigeria agenda is not helping them, that they feel cheated.

If the country is restructured and the Government is close to the people, the people will become more involve with their Government. When we have a chance to embrace diversity as a culture, then it is an opportunity to draw upon each of our strength to create something amazing. Government will become more responsive to individual needs. When the Government is closer to its citizen, then it can provide responsive solutions to citizen needs, emergency situations and among others.

The call for restructure is not a call to disintegrate Nigeria, not a call for disunity rather is a call to reposition Nigeria in our diversity to build a strong and indefatigable nation that will be truly the giant of Africa.

I call on President Buhari not to see the call for restructuring as a tool to disintegrate the Nigeria state, but a way of making a country that is more united, peaceful and productive.

Let history write your name in the hands of time that through your reign in the history of Nigeria, that she was restructured and generation to come will give you the accolade.

The Ijaws strongly believe in the one Nigeria agenda;  united we stand, divided we fall”. God bless the federal Republic of Nigeria!
