Egbemo-Angalabiri in Retrospect

By Passman Akpos

have watched from a distance and closely, I found out that, the problem of Egbemo-Angalabiri is both, a leadership and followership failure.

You can’t be a good leader, without first, been a good follower, every good follower is an apprentice that will culminate in being a good leader. According to Julian Hall ” the best leaders were the best followers”.

Psalm 11:3 says, ” if the foundation be destroyed, what will the rightous do”.

A good follower is one who has a strong interest or pays close attention to something, is an imitator, who follows another’s example.

Followers in Egbemo-Angalabiri fails because they lack strong interest and refuse to pay attention to details.

Strong interest is strong passion toward some thing.

As youth of Egbemo-Angalabiri, ask yourself this question. What is my strongest interest, what is my passion?According to Nelson Mandela ” there is no passion to be found playing small- in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living”.

Do you like the life you are presently living, are you where, you supposed to be, have you achieve your dreams and aspiration?

Please be true to yourself. You lack passion, this is the reason why you are toasted about by every doctrine that comes your way.

Politically speaking; some of us, if given fifty thousand naira, the person who gifted you the fifty thousand becomes a demi god. That’s why we have praise singers every where, because we don’t have passion and we don’t know our worth.

Let me give you a shocker; statistically speaking, assuming Bayelsa State produced 18 percent in terms of oil production, Alabini alone produced 8 percent out of the 18 percent, the rest local government put together produce the remaining 10 percent.

Anytime you called Alabini in terms of oil production, is Egbemo-Angalabiri you will mention.

One question that comes to mind, in terms of this great oil production; what is the visible impact on Egbemo-Angalabiri,; Economically and otherwise?

How many of the federal and state capital project and infrastructures that are situated in the domain, what about human capital development, how many of our wards are in scholarship abroad?

We have oil companies operating in our territory since late 197os, is about 52 years; a 52 years old man is already a grand father.

How many of our indigenes are employed permanently by these companies, is it that, we don’t have the human employability capacity?

Currently, we have the number 4 man in Bayelsa State, in the person of the deputy speaker in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Michael Ogbere.

What are the benefits to Egbemo-Angalabiri in respect to this. What are the constituency capital or human capital development projects one could easily point out to show that our representative is truly representing us well. What are the bills he has sponsored that are of direct importance to the wellbeing of our community?.

I am not saying all these to de-market any body, rather, am begging you to be passionate, have a strong interest.

We have stayed too long in this valley, is time to move upward. 2023 election is around the corner, please vote wisely.
