Akure Under Siege: Armed Kidnappers Shoot Farmer, Escape With His Wife

Residents of Akure, the Ondo State capital, were thrown into panic on Wednesday night after suspected kidnappers invaded a home along Oda Road, shot a farmer and abducted his wife.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that the attack occurred around 8:45 p.m. in Isagba Community, when gunmen stormed the residence of a tomato farmer identified as Adesida Daniel.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the assailants shot the farmer in the right hand while he attempted to resist them during the abduction of his wife.
According to the police spokesperson, the attackers fled the scene with the victim’s wife, leaving the injured farmer behind.
“The command strongly condemns the criminal act carried out by suspected kidnappers who invaded the residence of one Adesida Daniel, a tomato farmer in Isagba Community along Oda Road,” Jimoh said.
He added that police operatives responded quickly after receiving a distress call from residents.
“Upon receiving the distress call, police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene, ensured the injured victim was rescued to the Police Clinic for medical attention, and secured the area,” he stated.
The police said the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State has ordered intensified security operations in the area, including aggressive patrols, bush combing, and intelligence gathering across surrounding communities to track down the fleeing suspects.
Jimoh assured residents that the command is committed to rescuing the abducted woman and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
“The command assures residents that no effort will be spared in tracking down the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” he said.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or individuals to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
The incident has heightened concerns over rising cases of kidnapping and violent crime in parts of the state, particularly in communities on the outskirts of Akure.
