“I attended a government boarding school, and it’s not a funny experience. These teachers and officials prepare a good meal, but once they’ve dished out their portion, they mix the rest with water for the students”
This was the revelation as Bayelsa commissioner of Education Dr. Gentle E. Emelah In one of his recent routine visits to inspect boarding schools in Bayelsa, “I wasn’t impressed with the quality of food being served to the children on the day of my visit” he noted .
The Douye Diri Commissioner, reiterated that, to ensure such doesn’t repeat itself again, he therefore mandated all boarding schools to snap and report every meal the kids consume daily to a dedicated WhatsApp platform for strict monitoring by himself and other heads of the Ministry of Education.
According to him “This is to ensure our kids are not just fed but fed with nutritious meals to aide their growth and learning as we remain very intentional about the wellbeing of our children”
Reacting to the statement, a First hand eye witness noted “A good gesture but please sir Dr. Gentle Emelah, those responsible for giving you the update should not be staff or officials in these schools”
“I attended a government boarding school, and it’s not a funny experience. These teachers and officials prepare a good meal, but once they’ve dished out their portion, they mix the rest with water etc. for the students”
“Your efforts will be fruitless if it’s officials that will be giving you the daily update. A corruption free team is needed if this pursuit must yield results” he added.
