BREAKING: Former Delta Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan Reportedly Dies As Details Remain Unclear

By Passman Akpos

Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has reportedly died, according to sources said to be close to his family, SaharaReporters has reported.

The report, which emerged on Monday, October 19, 2026, quoted unnamed sources confirming the former governor’s reported death. However, details surrounding the circumstances of his reported passing remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

“Uduaghan is no more; he is dead,” one of the sources was quoted as saying.

As of the time of publication, no independently verified statement from Uduaghan’s family or an official representative confirming the reported death was available.

PREVIOUS DEATH RUMOURS DISMISSED

The latest report comes months after similar claims about the former governor’s death circulated on social media, triggering widespread concern among residents, political associates and supporters across Delta State.

In June 2026, reports claiming that Uduaghan had died spread across Facebook, WhatsApp and other online platforms.

However, the claims were publicly dismissed by his media aide, Henry Unini, who insisted that the former governor was alive and receiving medical attention.

Unini acknowledged at the time that Uduaghan had been experiencing health challenges but maintained that he was recuperating under medical care.

He also criticised the circulation of unverified reports about the death of a living person, warning against the publication of sensitive information without proper verification.

The Delta State Government also dismissed the June death rumours. A media aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori said he had contacted Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who confirmed that her father was alive.

WHO IS EMMANUEL UDUAGHAN?

Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan served as governor of Delta State from May 2007 to May 2015.

A medical doctor by profession, he previously served in government as Delta State Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government before becoming governor.

His eight-year tenure placed him at the centre of political and governance developments in Delta State, one of Nigeria’s major oil-producing states.

QUESTIONS REMAIN OVER LATEST REPORT
