“Court Order Won’t Stand!” — Seriake Dickson Declares War on ‘Illegal’ Judgment

Former Bayelsa state Governor, Seriake Dickson has condemned a recent order issued by the Federal High Court in Lokoja, describing it as illegal, anti-democratic, and a calculated attempt to undermine the progress of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a strongly worded statement released on Friday, Dickson said he was shocked by the order delivered by Honourable Justice Isah Dashen, insisting that it lacked legal merit and was aimed at damaging the credibility and momentum the party has built within the last five months.
According to him, the ruling is an attack on Nigeria’s multi-party democracy and an attempt to shrink the country’s democratic space. He vowed that the decision would be challenged through the courts and would not stand.
Dickson disclosed that the NDC has assembled a team of lawyers to immediately take steps to set aside the court order and restore normal political activities. He urged party members, supporters, and candidates nationwide to remain calm and continue their campaigns without fear.
The former Bayelsa governor also questioned the legal standing of the association that instituted the suit, arguing that it is neither a registered political party nor one of the associations that applied for registration in 2025. He maintained that the group had no legal interest in the matter and should never have been involved in the case.
He alleged that the legal action was orchestrated by individuals unsettled by the rapid growth and acceptance of the NDC across Nigeria, insisting that the party’s progress has attracted unnecessary opposition.
“We will not allow this to slow us down or break our spirit. The struggle must continue,” Dickson declared, adding that the judicial process would ultimately correct what he described as a judicial anomaly.
Reaffirming his confidence in the party’s future, Dickson encouraged supporters to remain steadfast, saying the latest development only proves that the NDC has become a formidable political force.
Quoting one of his favourite sayings on struggle, he stated: “First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they attack you, then you win.”He further revealed that despite the court ruling, thousands of Nigerians reportedly registered as members of the NDC on the same day in a show of solidarity and support.
Expressing gratitude to Nigerians for their continued confidence in the party, Dickson said the growing support has strengthened the NDC’s determination to deepen multi-party democracy and remain focused on its political objectives.
