A passionate call for national unity and collective responsibility has emerged amid growing concerns over Nigeria’s economic hardship, insecurity, and governance challenges.
In a thought-provoking statement, Valerie Gbakena stressed that meaningful change in Nigeria cannot be achieved if citizens continue to rely on a single leader or a few individuals to “fight the battle” for national progress.
Drawing a parallel with teamwork in warfare, she noted that every successful mission requires unity of purpose, shared vision, and clearly defined roles. According to her, a nation can only succeed when its people operate with “one mind, one goal,” where every individual contributes diligently without waiting to be prompted.
“Nigerians want an end to suffering, hunger, corruption, and unemployment,” she said, “but the critical question remains: are we truly united in our goals, and do we understand the path to achieving them?”
Gbakena pointed to global examples such as China, Japan, India, United States, and United Kingdom, highlighting how shared national vision and collective discipline have contributed to their development. She noted that many Nigerians continue to migrate to these countries in search of better opportunities, raising concerns about the nation’s future if internal issues persist.
The statement also touched on the role of faith in sustaining hope among Nigerians, despite religious and cultural differences. While acknowledging the resilience of citizens, Gbakena warned against using religion as a cover for greed and selfishness, describing such tendencies as dangerous obstacles to national progress.
“Faith is believing in what we have not yet seen,” she said, questioning how Nigerians can sustain hope in the face of widespread corruption and inequality in a country richly endowed with natural and human resources.
She called for a renewed commitment to accountability, rule of law, and civic responsibility, insisting that no individual should be above the law. According to her, building a nation where children can proudly call home requires immediate action from both leaders and citizens.
Her message concluded with a rallying call for Nigerians to move beyond passive hope and prayers, and instead take deliberate steps toward building a better nation.
“Let it start today,” she urged. “Let us make Nigeria a better place—for you and for me.”
