By Passman Akpos

The Nigeria Police Force has officially concluded the 15th Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) “Asaba 2026,” marking the end of a week-long sporting festival that showcased athletic excellence, discipline, and inter-agency unity.

The closing ceremony, held at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, brought together officers, dignitaries, and spectators in a colourful celebration of sportsmanship and institutional cohesion.

Speaking at the event, the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, described the tournament as a defining institutional moment where competition revealed character and strengthened unity across Commands and Formations. According to the IGP, what began as a convergence of operational units has grown into a powerful platform for building resilience and shared purpose within the Force.

He noted that the theme, “Beyond the Badge: Excellence in Action,” was reflected throughout the Games, particularly in the spirit of mutual respect displayed by participants. Egbetokun emphasized that the discipline cultivated through sports directly enhances operational readiness and improves service delivery nationwide.

Declaring the Games closed, the Deputy Governor of Delta State, Monday John Onyeme, commended the Nigeria Police for demonstrating professionalism and dedication beyond routine policing. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting sports development as a tool for youth empowerment, unity, and national growth.

The closing ceremony featured football finals, a frisbee demonstration, tug-of-war contests, 4×100 relay races, and invitational events involving sister security agencies, alongside a cultural concert.

At the end of the competition, Force Headquarters emerged overall champion on the medal table, while Zone 2 Lagos and Zone 9 secured second and third positions respectively.

In a statement issued from Force Headquarters in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, reaffirmed that the unity, discipline, and resilience demonstrated during the Games would be carried into policing operations across the country.
