A Catholic priest serving in the Archdiocese of Kafanchan, Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, has been killed by gunmen who were suspected in Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Chancellor of the Kafanchan Catholic Archdiocese, Reverend Father Jacob Shanet, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Okechukwu was abducted from his residence around 9:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
His body was discovered on Ash Wednesday morning, though the motive behind his murder remained unclear as of publication time.
Shanet described the late priest as a devoted servant of God who dedicated his life to spreading peace, love, and hope.
His death, he said, had left a deep void in the diocesan community.
The Archdiocese urged parishioners to remain calm and prayerful while honouring the priest’s memory.
Funeral arrangements, he said, would be announced later.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, for confirmation were unsuccessful.
