Suspected Lagos APC Thug In Leaked Audio Confirms Alleged Plot To Assassinate Sowore

By Passman Akpos

A leaked audio recording circulating online has sent shockwaves across Nigeria’s political landscape, allegedly capturing a suspected Lagos All Progressives Congress (APC) thug confessing to a plot to assassinate human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore.

In the viral audio, the unidentified speaker—believed to be a known political enforcer within the Lagos APC structure—claimed that certain powerful figures were coordinating plans to “silence” Sowore ahead of the 2027 general elections. The voice in the recording could be heard boasting about connections to “top men” who allegedly sanctioned the operation.

According to the leaked clip, the suspect detailed how surveillance was being conducted on Sowore’s movements and how certain “boys” had been deployed to monitor his activities in Lagos and Abuja. The voice warned that “this time, Sowore go collect” — a phrase now trending on social media as Nigerians express outrage and call for immediate investigation.

Reacting to the development, Sowore took to his X (formerly Twitter) account, demanding that security agencies urgently probe the threat. He described the audio as “a clear confirmation of what we’ve been warning Nigerians about — the growing culture of political violence and impunity under the ruling APC.”

Human rights groups, including Amnesty International Nigeria and the Take It Back Movement, have condemned the alleged plot, calling on the Inspector-General of Police to identify and arrest the individual behind the voice note.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State chapter of the APC has distanced itself from the leaked audio, describing it as “a desperate attempt by opposition elements to tarnish the image of the party.” In a brief statement, the party’s spokesperson insisted that “the APC does not engage in violence or political assassinations.”

As public anger mounts, security experts are warning that the incident could further heighten political tensions, especially as Sowore continues to be one of the most vocal critics of the current administration.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on whether a formal investigation has been launched into the authenticity of the audio or the alleged plot.

If verified, the revelation would mark one of the most serious political threat cases in Nigeria in recent years, reigniting fears over the safety of opposition voices and activists ahead of future elections.
