Hotel Robbery Drama in Yenagoa: Two Arrested as Bayelsa Volunteers Bust Electrical-Wire Syndicate

By Passman Akpos

The Bayelsa State Volunteers Security Outfit has apprehended and paraded two suspects linked to a hotel robbery that occurred in the early hours of Friday, November 7, 2025, at Temo Hotel along the Tombia–Amassoma Road in Yenagoa.

The suspects, identified as Mr. Preye Dougu, 29, from Southern Ijaw LGA and residing on Erepa Road, Yenagoa, and Mr. Pedro James, 35, from Ekeremor LGA and living along Opolo Market Road, Yenagoa, were arrested following swift investigative efforts by the Volunteers.

According to eyewitnesses, three men — Dougu, James, and a third accomplice still at large — had lodged at Temo Hotel before allegedly breaking into the ceiling and stealing electrical wires valued at ₦360,000. Items carted away included 6mm, 4mm, 2.5mm, and 1.5mm Cutis cables, load wire (2.5mm), and single-core Cutis in black and red.

The hotel owner disclosed that the incident marked the third robbery targeting the facility in recent times, prompting heightened concern.

Acting on the report, operatives of the Volunteers launched an investigation on Saturday, November 8. In a coordinated operation, the suspects were intercepted and arrested along the Tombia–Amassoma Road before being taken to the Volunteers’ operational base at the Tombia–Etegwe Roundabout.

During interrogation, the two men reportedly confessed to the crime and provided information that has intensified the search for the fleeing accomplice. They also revealed that the stolen electrical materials had already been sold to a buyer described only as “a Hausa man.”

Following procedure, the suspects have been transferred to Operation Doo Akpo for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Bayelsa State Volunteers Security Outfit reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, urging residents to continue supplying credible information that can support crime prevention and security operations.
