The wake-keep ceremony of celebrated Nollywood actor Alex Ekubo in Arochukwu, Abia State, was filled with grief and emotion as his longtime bodyguard and close confidant, Miracle, delivered a heartbreaking tribute that left mourners in tears.
Speaking before family members, friends, colleagues, and sympathizers, Miracle described the late actor as more than an employer, calling him a mentor, father figure, friend, and elder brother whose impact transformed his life.
According to him, he affectionately called the actor “Doc” and “Chief IKUKU Ikenna,” revealing that he admired him so deeply that he named his son after him.
Fighting back tears, Miracle recounted years of working closely with the actor and the special bond they shared, saying he still struggles to accept the reality of his death.
“I keep wishing it was all a prank. I keep hoping somehow you will call my phone and say, ‘Commando, where are you?’ or ‘Nnna,’ the way you always did,” he said emotionally.
The grieving aide recalled opening Ekubo’s door as he always did, hoping the actor would step out and answer him, only to be confronted once again with the painful reality that his mentor was gone.
“The closer it gets, the more reality sets in. At this moment, my heart is broken in a way I never thought possible. You left me shattered. Your Commando is shattered,” he lamented.
Miracle painted a picture of a compassionate and caring man who paid close attention to the wellbeing of those around him. He said the late actor could immediately sense when someone was troubled and would always reach out to offer support and encouragement.
He further disclosed that virtually everything he owns today was made possible through the generosity and guidance of Ekubo.
“From A to Z, everything I have in my house today came through Alex, my big brother. He taught me how to respect people and live a life of integrity and accountability,” he said.
The emotional tribute highlighted the deep personal connection between the two men, with Miracle explaining that they could communicate without words and understood each other in ways few others could.
He remembered their countless late-night conversations, life lessons, and future plans, expressing sorrow that many of those dreams would now remain unfulfilled.
“I can’t look at your pictures anymore. I can’t watch your movies anymore. I can’t think straight because this is unimaginable. We had so many plans for this year,” he added
As the ceremony continued, many attendees were visibly moved by the tribute, which captured not only the pain of losing a loved one but also the enduring legacy of a man remembered for his generosity, mentorship, and unwavering support for those around him.
Miracle concluded his tribute with a heartfelt farewell, declaring that the late actor would forever remain a part of him.
“Boss, I love you. I will always love you. I miss you, and I will always miss you. You live in me. Everything about me is you. Keep resting until we meet again.”
The emotional farewell has since resonated across social media, with many Nigerians praising the rare bond between the actor and his aide and reflecting on the profound impact of genuine mentorship and friendship.
