OPAF to Aiyedatiwa: Remove OSOPADEC Chairman Now or Risk Public Backlash

The Ondo People’s Accountability Front (OPAF) has intensified pressure on the leadership of the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), demanding the immediate removal of its Executive Chairman, Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye, over what it described as a disappointing performance record after one year in office.
In a statement made available to Tarakirivoice and signed by its President, Comrade Utanghan Education, the group accused the OSOPADEC Chairman of failing to deliver meaningful development projects to oil-producing communities despite occupying the office for a full year.
OPAF dismissed recent reports highlighting project inspections and claimed achievements by the Commission, arguing that such activities do not amount to measurable development outcomes. According to the group, the Commission has yet to commission any major project that can be presented as evidence of its performance since the current administration assumed office.
The accountability group maintained that project inspections and media publicity cannot substitute for completed and commissioned projects, which it described as the true benchmark for assessing public sector performance.
“One year in office is enough to show results, not endless inspection tours and media showcases without corresponding commissioning. What the people need is impact, not narratives,” the statement read.
The group noted that several public office holders across different sectors of government have successfully completed and commissioned multiple projects within their first year, questioning why OSOPADEC has been unable to achieve similar milestones despite its strategic mandate and access to substantial resources.
OPAF further alleged that the Commission’s reliance on publicity campaigns rather than tangible project delivery reflects a broader leadership failure that could undermine public confidence in the agency.
The organization also referenced an earlier vote of no confidence reportedly passed by stakeholders against the Chairman, claiming that growing dissatisfaction exists among residents of the oil-producing communities over the pace of development under the current leadership.
Consequently, OPAF called on Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to urgently review the leadership of OSOPADEC and take decisive action in the interest of the affected communities.
According to the group, oil-producing areas deserve leadership focused on transparency, accountability, and measurable development outcomes rather than what it termed “public relations-driven governance.”
Meanwhile, OSOPADEC has consistently maintained that it inherited several abandoned projects, many of which have now been completed, while others are at advanced stages of execution. The Commission has also pointed to ongoing infrastructure, water supply, and community development projects across its mandate areas as evidence of progress.
However, as of the time of filing this report, OSOPADEC had not issued any official response to the latest demand by OPAF for the removal of its Chairman.
The renewed criticism is expected to further fuel debate over the performance of the intervention agency and the pace of development in Ondo State’s oil-producing communities.
