“Royalty Slaughtered: Traditional Ruler, Wife, Son Gunned Down in Fresh Benue Horror”

By Paul Ebi
A community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State has been plunged into mourning following a deadly attack by gunmen that left a traditional ruler, his wife, their son, and two other residents dead.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday night, sent shockwaves through the area as armed assailants reportedly stormed the community without warning. Local sources said the attackers targeted the monarch’s residence before opening fire, killing five people on the spot.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the victims were caught off guard and had no opportunity to flee the sudden assault. While the identities of the monarch and his immediate family have been confirmed by community members, the names of the two additional victims were still being verified at the time of filing this report.
Residents described scenes of panic and confusion as the attack unfolded, with many fleeing their homes in fear of further violence. The killing of the traditional ruler has particularly deepened the sense of loss, as locals noted his significant role in promoting peace and unity within the community.
Security agencies have been notified of the incident, and efforts are reportedly underway to apprehend those responsible. However, no arrests had been confirmed as of press time.
The attack has renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity in parts of Benue State, especially in rural communities that have experienced recurring violence. Residents and local leaders are now calling for an increased security presence and swift government intervention to prevent further bloodshed.
As the community grieves, appeals for calm have been issued, alongside demands for justice and stronger protection for vulnerable areas.
