20-Year-Old Bayelsa Lady, Queen Ebitenye, Bags First-Class Law Degree Despite Father’s Death

By Paul Ebi

A 20-year-old Bayelsa-born scholar, Queen Ebitenye Okalizibe, has emerged as one of the brightest young legal minds in Nigeria after graduating with First-Class Honours in Law from American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State.

Ebitenye achieved the remarkable feat during the university’s 2026 convocation ceremony, finishing with an outstanding CGPA of 3.6/4.0 and earning widespread admiration for her resilience, discipline, and determination

Her academic journey was far from easy. Leaving her home state of Bayelsa State to study in Northern Nigeria came with initial fears and preconceived notions about life in the region. However, she said her experience in Adamawa completely changed her perspective as she encountered warmth, generosity, and hospitality from the people.

According to her, the achievement represents much more than academic success. She described it as a story of personal growth, resilience, and overcoming life’s toughest moments.

Studying Law, known for its rigorous demands, required her to remain disciplined, focused, and consistent through endless tests, assignments, and examinations. But perhaps her greatest challenge came with the painful loss of her father, HRH Chief Okali Aku, shortly before she began her university education.

Despite the emotional setback, Ebitenye refused to give up.

She credited her strength to the unwavering support of her family, especially her mother, Modline Amos, whom she praised for her sacrifices, strength, and encouragement throughout the difficult years.

She also appreciated her siblings—Becky, Prince, Edison, Destiny, and Tutu—for standing by her and keeping her motivated.

Special recognition was also given to Israel Sunny-Goli, a former member of the House of Representatives, whom she described as both an uncle and a father figure, particularly during her final year in school.

Ebitenye said her university experience went beyond earning a degree, as it taught her resilience, self-discovery, and how to find joy even in unexpected places.

Her inspiring story is now being celebrated across Bayelsa State and beyond, serving as a strong reminder that with perseverance, support, and determination, even the toughest obstacles can be overcome.
