African Journalists, Here’s Your Chance: Fully Funded Investigative Journalism Lab Opens Applications

Africa Uncensored has announced a call for applications for its Advanced Investigative Journalism Lab, a one-week residential training programme aimed at strengthening investigative reporting skills among journalists from across Africa.
The training, organised in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Regional Media Programme for Sub-Saharan Africa, will take place in Mombasa, Kenya, from November 4 to November 8, 2026.
According to the organisers, the intensive programme is designed for mid-career and senior journalists with at least three years of active reporting experience. Participants will receive practical training from experienced investigative reporters, editors and digital forensics experts while developing real-world investigative projects.
The programme seeks to enhance participants’ ability to conceptualise, research and execute high-impact investigative stories. It will also provide hands-on instruction in data journalism, Open-Source Intelligence (OSINT), digital verification, source protection, legal frameworks, safety protocols and ethical investigative reporting.
One of the key goals of the training is to ensure that each participant develops at least one publishable investigative story by the end of the programme while fostering a network of investigative journalists committed to promoting transparency and accountability across Africa.
The organisers said the opportunity is open to staff reporters, freelance journalists, editors and multimedia journalists working in print, broadcast and digital media. Journalists from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Somalia, Nigeria and other African countries are encouraged to apply.
Selected participants will receive full residential accommodation in Mombasa, return travel support for those travelling from outside the city, mentorship from leading investigative journalists, access to investigative tools and training materials, as well as certificates upon successful completion of the programme.
Applicants will be evaluated based on their journalism experience, portfolio of published work, the quality and feasibility of their proposed investigative story pitch, and their commitment to accountability journalism. The organisers also noted that gender and geographic diversity will be considered during the selection process, with women journalists strongly encouraged to apply.
Interested applicants are required to submit a completed application form, a curriculum vitae not exceeding three pages, a 300–500-word investigative story pitch, three samples of published investigative or accountability journalism, and a letter of support from an editor, media organisation or professional referee.
The application deadline is Saturday, August 15, 2026.
