Army Rescues Wife of Former Defence Spokesman From Bandits After Fierce Operation

By Passman Akpos

The Nigerian military has successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, from the hands of bandits following an intensive search-and-rescue operation.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, the rescue was carried out by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA with critical support from the Nigerian Air Force.

Mrs. Abubakar was abducted alongside her husband by armed bandits several weeks ago. While details surrounding the incident remain under investigation, the military said troops sustained pressure on the criminal elements through a series of coordinated offensives that eventually led to her recovery

The breakthrough came during military operations around Tunga Village, where troops engaged the bandits in a confrontation. Faced with overwhelming military pressure, the criminals reportedly shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing the scene.

Military personnel immediately evacuated her from the area and transported her to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment.

The Defence Headquarters disclosed that Mrs. Abubakar is responding positively to medical care and remains under close observation.

“The leadership of the Armed Forces of Nigeria remains committed to ensuring her full recovery and is providing all necessary support to her family during this difficult period,” the statement said.

The military further assured Nigerians that operations are ongoing to track down and eliminate those responsible for the abduction, stressing that efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and other forms of insecurity across the country will continue unabated.

The rescue is being viewed as a significant success for Operation FASAN YAMMA, which has intensified offensives against terrorist and bandit groups operating in parts of northern Nigeria.

Major General Samaila Uba reiterated the Armed Forces’ determination to restore peace and security in affected communities, particularly in Katsina State and other troubled regions across the nation.
