Tragedy in Bayelsa and Delta as Nollywood Veteran Elaweremi Pereke Mourns Younger Brother

The family of the late Dr. Elaweremi Tams Bill Pereke has been thrown into deep mourning following his sudden death, a loss that has sent shockwaves across communities in Bayelsa and Delta States.
The sad news was publicly announced by renowned Nollywood veteran actor, director, and filmmaker, Elaweremi Pereke Elaweremi, popularly known as Elaweremi Pereke Glean, who paid an emotional tribute to his late younger brother.
In a heartfelt message filled with grief, the veteran filmmaker wrote:
“IT’S SO SAD THAT I HAVE TO ANNOUNCE YOUR DEATH BECAUSE YOU ARE MY YOUNGER BROTHER… REST ON BROTHER.”
The announcement has attracted an outpouring of condolences from friends, family members, colleagues, and admirers who have sympathized with the bereaved family.
Elaweremi Pereke, a respected figure in the Nigerian movie industry, is widely recognized for his tireless efforts in promoting and preserving Ijaw culture, language, and heritage through film production and storytelling. The Bayelsa-born filmmaker is regarded as one of the leading voices in indigenous Nollywood productions.
According to the official family obituary, Dr. Elaweremi Tams Bill Pereke passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 5, 2026, at the age of 49.
The bereaved families include the Ombutuaowei and Dianmo-Edumo Quarters of Ayakoromo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State; Ekpoedeinghan Quarters of Ogriagbene in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State; as well as the Abiri and Yede families of Peretoru Town in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The family described the late Dr. Pereke as a beloved brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and community figure whose passing has left an irreplaceable void in the lives of those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, ten children, three grandchildren, his mother, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunties, and numerous relatives.
According to the burial programme released by the family, a Service of Songs will be held on June 26, 2026, at his residence located along Airport Road, Ijaw Quarters, Warri, beginning at 4:00 p.m.
On June 27, 2026, his remains will depart Safe Haven Mortuary by 10:00 a.m. and be conveyed to his hometown of Ayakoromo, Delta State, where final burial rites will take place.
The obituary was signed by Mr. Godfrey Elaweremi and Dr. Francis Elaweremi on behalf of the family.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the Niger Delta and beyond, many have remembered Dr. Elaweremi Tams Bill Pereke for his contributions to family, community development, and the values he upheld throughout his lifetime.
