“Christians Applaud Tonto Dikeh’s Bold Faith, Urge Believers to Be Loud for Christ”

By Passman Akpos

Public Debate Erupts Over Tonto Dikeh’s Open Display of Faith as Nigerians Clash OnlineA heated debate has erupted on social media following comments by Queen Lemmy Williams, who questioned the authenticity of Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh’s recent public display of Christianity.

In a strongly worded post that has since gone viral, Williams suggested that the actress’s newfound Christian lifestyle appears “scripted,” likening it to a Nollywood production rather than a genuine spiritual transformation. She argued that acts of humility, such as sweeping or cleaning a church, should be private expressions of faith rather than moments recorded for social media.

According to her, when spiritual acts are constantly documented and shared online, they risk looking like public relations efforts rather than sincere worship. She cited a biblical passage cautioning against publicizing good deeds and warned that God “sees beyond filters and ring lights.” While stressing that she wishes Tonto Dikeh well if the transformation is genuine, Williams concluded that “sometimes, silence preaches louder than any Instagram post.”The opinion, however, triggered a flood of reactions, sharply dividing public opinion.

Many social media users came out strongly in defence of Tonto Dikeh, describing the criticism as unnecessary judgment and harassment. Supporters argued that a celebrity expressing faith publicly should not be condemned, insisting that her visibility could inspire other celebrities and fans to embrace Christianity.

“A celebrity is always a celebrity. This could be what turns other lives around for Christ,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Why should she be ashamed of the gospel of Jesus? If she was posting other things, nobody would complain.”

Others dismissed the criticism outright, urging critics to “face their business,” block her content if they are tired of seeing it, or simply allow her live her life as she chooses. Some pointed out that Tonto Dikeh has always been expressive and dramatic in every phase of her life, arguing that her personality has not changed—only her message.

On the other side, a smaller but vocal group echoed Williams’ skepticism, describing the actress’s public religious displays as “cruise,” “hilarious,” or performative. These commenters questioned whether the sudden intensity of her posts reflected genuine faith or an attempt to rebrand her public image.

Despite the polarized reactions, a recurring theme across both sides was the belief that faith is ultimately personal and that only God can judge the sincerity of anyone’s spiritual journey.

As the debate continues to trend online, Tonto Dikeh herself has not publicly responded to the criticism, while conversations around faith, celebrity culture, and social media performance continue to dominate Nigeria’s digital space.
