In a statement circulating widely online, Sowore said he had “as far back as November 2025” exposed what he described as the real motive behind Trump’s so-called “Christian Genocide” narrative in Nigeria. According to Sowore, Trump’s interest was driven not by “revulsion, justice, or faith,” but by “lobbying outcomes, transactional influence, and financial incentives.”
“Donald J. Trump doesn’t intervene out of compassion,” Sowore wrote. “He intervenes the way a businessman enters a deal—who pays, who benefits, and what political mileage can be extracted.”
The remarks triggered a flood of reactions across Nigerian social media, with supporters praising Sowore as “fearless,” “intelligent,” and “daring,” while critics dismissed his claims as exaggerated or politically motivated. Some commenters reacted humorously to an old Trump interview clip in which the former U.S. president joked about fears of kidnapping if he visited Nigeria, a remark many Nigerians found both offensive and ironic.
Beyond the humor, Sowore’s supporters argued that Trump’s framing of Nigeria’s security crisis along religious lines risks deepening divisions in a country already battling insurgency and communal violence.
“This is what Donald Trump is doing by coming to Africa with religious division, claiming Christian genocide,” one commenter wrote. “Instead of facing terrorism, he is facing Muslims and tagging them as terrorists. That is divide-and-rule.”
Others warned that such narratives ignore the complex reality of Nigeria’s insecurity, where both Christians and Muslims have been victims of extremist violence, banditry, and state failure.
The debate also revived calls from Sowore’s backers for political change at home, with hashtags such as #WeCantContinueLikeThis and #RevolutionNow trending alongside renewed appeals for Nigerians to consider Sowore as a future national leader.
Not all reactions were supportive. Some respondents defended Trump, citing his public expressions of faith and past statements about “redeeming” America spiritually, while others described the resurfaced interview clips as outdated and taken out of context.
As the arguments rage on, the episode underscores how foreign political rhetoric—especially when filtered through religion—can inflame domestic tensions in Nigeria, while also highlighting Sowore’s continued ability to provoke national conversation, blending sharp criticism, activism, and satire in equal measure.
