Residents of Jos are gripped by fear following reports of ongoing violence and sporadic gunfire across several parts of the city on Wednesday day, April 1, 2026.
Areas including Terminus, Nasarawa Gwom, Farin Gada, Gada Biyu, and Filin Ball were reportedly affected, with eyewitnesses claiming that unrest began after an alleged attack on a church earlier in the day. Unconfirmed reports indicate that at least one woman lost her life in the incident, though authorities are yet to officially verify the casualty figures.
The alarming claims were amplified by controversial public figure Kemi Olunloyo, who alleged that the violence is politically motivated and linked to militia activities during campaign periods. She further warned of possible attacks during the Easter period, urging residents to remain vigilant.
However, security experts and officials have not corroborated these claims, particularly allegations involving foreign fighters, arms stockpiles, or coordinated religious targeting. No official statement has been released by the Department of State Services or other security agencies regarding such intelligence.
Local sources confirm heightened tension in affected communities, with many residents staying indoors amid fears of escalation. There are also concerns over the visible absence of security personnel in some flashpoints at the time of reporting, although reinforcement efforts may be underway.
Plateau State has a history of communal and sectarian clashes, often triggered by political, ethnic, or religious tensions, especially during sensitive periods.
