UAT Welcomes First Female Registrar as Mrs Tare-ela Abite Assumes Office

The University of Africa, Toru-Orua (UAT) has officially welcomed Mrs. Tare-ela Darlington Abite as its third substantive Registrar, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s history as she becomes the first female to occupy the position.

Her appointment, confirmed by the University’s First Governing Council during its 17th Statutory Council meeting, takes effect from Monday, May 18, 2026, and will run for a single tenure of five years.

In a statement issued by the Acting Public Relations Officer, Aforka Faith Ebide-Konyefa, the Vice Chancellor, on behalf of the management, staff, and students, extended a warm welcome to Mrs. Abite as she officially resumes duty this week.

Mrs. Abite brings with her over 25 years of extensive experience in university administration, most of which were gained at Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island. She holds a B.Sc. in Business Administration, an MBA in Management, and an M.Sc. in Management.

Before her appointment, she served as the Establishments Officer at Niger Delta University, where she also made history as a former Chairman of the ANUPA NDU Chapter, demonstrating her strong leadership and commitment to institutional development.

Speaking on her new role, Mrs. Abite expressed her readiness to dedicate her expertise and energy toward advancing the University of Africa, Toru-Orua to greater heights, pledging to work tirelessly in strengthening the institution’s administrative excellence.

A native of Sagbama Local Government Area in Bayelsa State, Mrs. Abite is married and blessed with children.

Her emergence is being celebrated by many as a remarkable step forward for gender inclusion and institutional progress within the university system.
