APC Under Siege as Obi–Kwankwaso Ticket Gains Dangerous Momentum

By Passman Akpos

The Kwankwaso Support Group 2027 has proposed a joint presidential ticket pairing former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, with former Kano State Governor and Senator, Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Kano on Friday, the leader of the group, Abba Gwale, said the proposal was driven by the urgent need to rescue Nigeria from its current socio-economic and security challenges. He called on Nigerians to rally behind what he described as a unifying alliance capable of changing the country’s political direction.

“As Kwankwaso supporters and loyalists, we have proposed and thrown our weight behind a joint presidential ticket, especially with Peter Obi, in any of the political parties,” Gwale said. “The current political trajectory has shown clearly where the tide is shifting.”

Gwale argued that an Obi–Kwankwaso alliance would combine Obi’s strong support base in the South with Kwankwaso’s formidable following in the North, forming a broad national coalition with the capacity to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“If the duo gets a mandate in the upcoming election, Nigeria will be a better place,” he said. “For real, Nigerians are tired of insecurity, hunger and starvation.”

According to Gwale, the proposed alliance is built on a shared commitment by both leaders to prioritise the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. He noted that Obi and Kwankwaso have consistently projected themselves as leaders focused on the plight of the common man, a factor he said is fuelling growing public interest in the partnership.

“At the heart of this alliance is the ambition to wrestle power from the ruling APC and bring about meaningful change to Nigeria,” he added. “With this partnership, they are poised to give the ruling party a serious run for their money.”

Gwale, who hails from the same constituency as Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the proposed ticket is riding on widespread dissatisfaction with the current administration. He added that the message of hope and change being promoted by the alliance is resonating strongly across the country.

“As 2027 approaches, all eyes are on the Obi–Kwankwaso alliance to see how they will convert this momentum into votes,” Gwale said. “One thing is certain: the duo is determined to shake things up and usher in a new era of politics in Nigeria.”

Reacting to reports alleging that Kwankwaso had made demands for a significant number of political appointments as a condition for joining the ruling APC, Gwale dismissed such claims as outrageous and inconsistent with the stature of the former governor.

“If there is anything like that, it should be seen as unacceptable, considering the calibre of Senator Kwankwaso,” he said, adding that any demands made by the former governor were aimed at addressing the interests of his supporters and party members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Supporters of Kwankwaso cut across every divide,” Gwale added. “They are mostly ordinary Nigerians who are struggling to survive from hand to mouth, and their interests must always come first.”
