By Passman Akpos

Popular social media activist Peter Akah, widely known as Peter for Nigeria, and content creator Miss Precious Oruche, popularly called MamaPee, have been questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations relating to the alleged abuse of the Nigerian currency.

The development was disclosed in a press statement issued on Thursday by their lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, following growing public concern over the whereabouts and safety of the two activists.

According to the lawyer, both Peter for Nigeria and MamaPee were initially invited by the EFCC through separate invitation letters dated June 24, 2026, requesting them to appear before the Commission on July 6, 2026, to clarify allegations bordering on the abuse of the naira.

Effiong explained that his legal team formally requested a rescheduling of the meeting because the duo were unavailable on the original date. The Commission subsequently received them on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, when they appeared alongside their lawyer at the EFCC headquarters. He stated that the activists cooperated fully with investigators and were later released after the interrogation.

According to the statement, the questioning lasted for a considerable period, but the lawyer commended the Commission for conducting the exercise professionally.

Addressing the substance of the allegations, Effiong said his clients explained to investigators that the items referenced in the videos under investigation were prop money used for entertainment purposes and not genuine naira notes.

He also disclosed that Peter for Nigeria and MamaPee are expected to return to the Commission on Thursday as investigations continue.

The lawyer reassured supporters that both activists are safe and in good spirits, expressing appreciation to Nigerians who raised concerns over their welfare during the period of uncertainty.
