“Goodluck Jonathan Officially Set for 2027 Presidential Battle Against Tinubu — Agbedi”

A member of the House of Representatives, Fred Agbedi , has declared that the possible return of former President to the 2027 presidential race would dramatically reshape Nigeria’s political landscape and unsettle existing power calculations ahead of the next general election.
Agbedi, who represents Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency of Bayelsa State in the Green Chamber, stated that Jonathan is now more prepared than ever for the leadership of the country and remains the most competent figure to rescue Nigeria from its current economic and political challenges
Speaking during an appearance on ’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday, the Bayelsa lawmaker said Jonathan’s entrance into the race would send shockwaves across the nation’s political environment.
“It means so much, it will upset the entire political atmosphere,” Agbedi said while reacting to the growing list of opposition figures expected to challenge President in the 2027 election.
The lawmaker further confirmed that Jonathan would contest under the platform of the PDP , joining other opposition figures already linked with the race, including Obi, Atiku and Tinubu.
According to Agbedi, Nigeria is in urgent need of tested leadership after years of economic hardship, insecurity and political tension under the administrations of former President Buhari and Tinubu.
“He is better prepared for the job. A serious country in a democracy will look for the best persons wherever they are to say ‘please our country is in dire straits, we want a competent, capable, tested and trusted person to come and lead our country’. That is what a serious nation does,” Agbedi stated.
The federal lawmaker argued that many Nigerians now believe Jonathan represents stability and national healing at a time when citizens are battling rising inflation, unemployment and worsening living conditions.
He maintained that after eight years under Buhari and nearly three years under Tinubu, many citizens are yearning for Jonathan’s return to stabilise the country and restore public confidence in governance.
Agbedi’s remarks came barely 24 hours after a Federal High Court in Abuja cleared Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election.
Justice dismissed a suit filed by lawyer seeking to stop Jonathan from participating in the 2027 race.
In his ruling, Justice Lifu held that the plaintiff lacked the legal standing to institute the suit and described the case as “an abuse of court process.”
The court also imposed a N20 million fine against Jide obi in favour of Jonathan and an additional N1 million fine payable to the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The judge noted that previous rulings by both the Federal High Court in Yenagoa and the Court of Appeal had already affirmed Jonathan’s eligibility to seek office again.
Jonathan’s potential return is already generating intense political debate across the country, with analysts predicting that his entrance could reshape alliances, weaken existing party structures and trigger major political realignments ahead of 2027.
