“I Waited for God, Not Politicians” — Diri Opens Up on Deputy Governor Decision

Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, has expressed appreciation to the people of the state for their prayers and support following the emergence of Peter Akpe as the new Deputy Governor.
Speaking during the February edition of the state’s monthly Praise Night, the governor said the decision to appoint Dr. Akpe came after a period of fasting and prayers, despite pressures and suggestions from different quarters.
According to Diri, he deliberately ignored political pressure in order to seek what he described as divine direction before making the final choice.
“I want to thank you Bayelsans for putting us in prayers to select who the next Deputy Governor will be, because even God Himself does not allow vacancy, so He said in His Word that his office let another take.
“So we prayed and fasted about it. There were pressures from different corners, but I waited for God’s divine intervention. That was why, in the midst of the pressures, I waited and made this decision in line with God’s guidance,” the governor stated.
Diri also appreciated residents for their continued support for his administration and urged them to sustain their cooperation toward maintaining peace and development in the state.
He called on citizens to remain united and committed to the progress of Bayelsa, stressing that collective effort was necessary to achieve lasting growth and stability in the state and in Nigeria as a whole.
