Media Bias Allegations: Kemi Olunloyo Accuses Nigerian MSM of Selective Reporting

Controversial media personality and investigative commentator, Kemi Olunloyo, has accused Nigeria’s mainstream media (MSM) of deliberate bias and selective reporting, claiming that her positive contributions are routinely ignored while allegations and controversies involving her are quickly amplified.
In a strongly worded statement shared on social media under the hashtag #kemitalksdavido, Olunloyo alleged that media organisations have consistently failed to seek her side of stories before publishing damaging reports. She argued that this pattern reflects deeper systemic issues within Nigeria’s media landscape.
“I hope you can see how the Nigerian MSM works. They never publish any of my good works but will rush to report any negative thing about me,” she stated.
Referencing past high-profile incidents, Olunloyo recalled that human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) once called on the police to invite her for questioning, while popular musician Davido Adeleke publicly addressed a paternity-related controversy involving her. According to her, despite the gravity of such matters, no media outlet made efforts to verify allegations or reach out for clarification.
“Not one media house has reached out to even ask if I was actually impersonating Anu,” she said, insisting that narratives were accepted without scrutiny.
Olunloyo further alleged that certain individuals wield financial influence to shape media narratives, accusing unnamed figures of using money and connections to manipulate public opinion. In an emotional outburst, she criticised Davido directly, expressing anger over what she described as sustained media attacks and misinformation.
The comments have since sparked renewed debate on social media about journalistic ethics, fairness, and the responsibility of the press to balance speed with accuracy, especially when reporting on controversial public figures.
