Mumbai attacks alleged mastermind Hafiz Saeed’s brother-in-law and banned Jamaat-ud-Dawa deputy chief Hafiz Abdul Rahman Makki died of heart attack here on Friday.
According to the Jamaat-ud-din Dawa (JuD), Prof Abdul Rahim Makki was facing serious health issues and underwent treatment for diabetes before passing away at a private hospital in Lahore.
“Makki suffered a cardiac arrest early this morning, and he breathed his last in the hospital,” a JuD official informed reporters.
Makki, the brother-in-law of JuD chief Hafiz Saeed, was convicted and handed six months of imprisonment for terror financing in 2020 by an anti-terrorism court.
Makki, deputy chief of JuD, had been keeping a low profile after being sentenced to terror financing.
The Pakistan Mutahida Muslim League (PMML), in a statement, said that Makki was an advocate of Pakistani ideology.
In 2023, when the United States issued a renewed list of the most wanted terrorists in the world, it also included Makki’s name.
He was designated as a global terrorist by the United Nations, subjecting him to an asset freeze, travel ban, and arms embargo.
Furthermore, in a series of recent incidents, several top commanders and former militant leaders have been killed in targeted assassinations in Pakistan.
The common linkage between these terror leaders is that all of them were either directly or indirectly linked to or wanted in the 26/11 terror attacks.
