NDC in Crisis Mode? Emergency NEC Meeting Called as Primary Results Spark Controversy

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as unofficial and misleading the various primary election results currently circulating across social media platforms following its nationwide primaries conducted on May 28 and 29, 2026.
In a press statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., the NDC urged members, supporters, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard any purported results not officially released by the party’s National Executive Council (NEC).
According to the statement, the authentic results of the primaries remain in the custody of the NEC, which is the only organ empowered to announce the outcomes of the exercise.
The party further disclosed that, on the directive of its National Leader, Distinguished Senator Seriake Dickson, an emergency NEC meeting has been scheduled to deliberate on the primary election process and ratify the final list of candidates.
The statement directed all NEC members to arrive in Abuja for a pre-NEC meeting on Tuesday, June 2, while the main NEC session will hold on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
“The general public is hereby urged to disregard the various results circulating on social media as the outcome of the nationwide primaries conducted by the Nigeria Democratic Congress,” the statement read.
The party emphasized that Nigerians and relevant stakeholders would be officially informed of the outcomes of the primaries once the list of successful candidates is finalized and transmitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The development has fueled speculation within political circles over the outcome of the closely watched primaries, particularly amid growing interest in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Political observers say the NEC meeting is expected to play a crucial role in resolving any disputes arising from the primaries and shaping the party’s electoral strategy ahead of the next election cycle.
