“Prayer Changed UK Temperature, But Inflation Still ‘Burning’ Nigerians” — Emotional Reactions Trail Open Heavens Message

By Passman Akpos

LAGOS, NIGERIA — The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has stirred widespread discussion following the latest edition of the Open Heaven Daily Devotional titled “He Will Bring Calm.”

The devotional, released on Thursday, May 28, 2026, emphasized faith, divine intervention, and trust in God during difficult times — but one section in particular has triggered intense online debate across Nigeria.

“God Can Bring Calm Into Any Situation” — Message of Hope

In the devotional, Adeboye encouraged Christians not to panic in the face of hardship, stating that no situation is beyond divine intervention.

Quoting Isaiah 41:10, he reminded believers:“Fear thou not; for I am with thee… I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee.”

He also referenced biblical accounts such as the widow of Zarephath (1 Kings 17) and the famine in Samaria (2 Kings 6–7) to illustrate what he described as sudden divine reversals in desperate situations.

According to the message, God can “turn scarcity into abundance” and “bring calm where there is chaos.”

UK Weather Testimony Sparks Viral Reaction

However, the most controversial section came when the cleric referenced a past trip to the United Kingdom, where he said he prayed concerning extreme heat conditions.

He reportedly testified that after prayer, temperatures that had reached around 40°C allegedly dropped significantly overnight.

That claim quickly became the focal point of online discussions, with Nigerians splitting into two camps — those expressing faith-based agreement and others questioning the interpretation and comparison.

Nigerians Draw Parallels With Local HardshipAs the testimony spread, many Nigerians began linking it to their own lived realities, especially ongoing inflation, rising food prices, and economic pressure.

Social media users framed the discussion in emotional and comparative terms:

If temperature can “drop after prayer” abroad, why does hardship feel constant at home?

Why does relief seem instant elsewhere but slow locally

One recurring sentiment online captured the tone of debate:

“If 40°C can reduce overnight there, why is Nigeria’s own pressure still so hot every day?”

“Heat of Life vs Heat of Weather” Debate Grows

While supporters of the devotional emphasized spiritual interpretation rather than literal analysis, critics argued that the conversation reflects deeper frustration with economic conditions in Nigeria.

Many linked the discussion not just to weather claims, but to the broader feeling of financial pressure, unemployment, and inflation.

Others defended the message, insisting it was meant as a testimony of faith rather than a scientific statement.

A Message That Went Beyond Devotion

What began as a daily devotional reflection has now evolved into a broader national conversation — blending faith, emotion, and socioeconomic reality.

While the Open Heaven message focused on hope and divine calm in difficult times, its reception has highlighted how deeply Nigerians connect spiritual narratives with everyday survival challenges.

For many, the debate is less about weather — and more about the desire for relief from what they describe as “life’s constant heat.”
