Zamfara Under Fire: Operation Fansan Yamma Wipes Out Terrorists, Recovers Deadly Weapons

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force (JTF) North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have recorded another major breakthrough in the fight against terrorism in Zamfara State, neutralizing three suspected terrorists and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition during a clearance operation.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, 2026, targeted criminal hideouts in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas as part of intensified efforts to deny terrorists freedom of movement and restore lasting peace across the North West.
According to a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA, troops encountered heavily armed terrorists at Doumbourum Village, leading to a fierce gun battle.
He disclosed that the troops, displaying superior firepower and tactical precision, overpowered the terrorists, forcing them to flee in disarray after suffering heavy casualties.
Following the encounter, security forces confirmed that three terrorists were neutralized on the spot, while a significant cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered from the scene.
Items recovered include one AK-47 rifle, one machine gun, one locally fabricated handgun, seven rifle magazines, and a total of 571 rounds of live ammunition.
Military authorities also confirmed that no casualty was recorded among the troops, describing the outcome as a major morale booster in the ongoing anti-terror operations across the region.
The Joint Task Force noted that the sustained victories recorded under Operation FANSAN YAMMA reflect the commitment, resilience, and professionalism of troops determined to rid the North West of terrorism, banditry, and other criminal activities threatening public safety.
The command further appealed to residents of Zamfara State and the wider North West region to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence that would help strengthen ongoing operations and ensure a safer environment for all.
Security analysts say the latest success sends a strong signal that the military remains determined to intensify pressure on criminal networks operating across the region.
