“Baby In A Sack!” — Newborn Girl Found Abandoned In Edo Community As Police Hunt For Parents

A newborn baby girl has been rescued after she was reportedly found abandoned inside a sack at Obaretin Community in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to a report by Tribune Online, residents discovered the infant at about 7 a.m. on September 8, 2026, before alerting officers at the Ologbo Police Station.
The Edo State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident, saying the newborn was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical attention.
Ikoedem said medical personnel examined the baby and certified her healthy.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the command had commenced an investigation to identify the child’s parents and establish the circumstances surrounding her abandonment.
According to her, relevant authorities had also been contacted to arrange safe shelter and appropriate care for the infant while efforts to trace her parents continue.
Ikoedem appealed to residents who may have information about the identity or whereabouts of the baby’s parents to come forward and provide useful information to the authorities.
She assured that the investigation would continue in order to determine how the newborn came to be abandoned and ensure that her welfare is protected.
The incident has raised concerns within the community, particularly over the circumstances that could have led to a newborn being left inside a sack shortly after birth.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the investigation progresses and efforts to identify the child’s parents continue.
