Bayelsa Guber Poll: Non-indigenes stakeholders endorse Gov. Diri for 2nd term

… as Gov. Diri appreciates them, makes commitment to appoint non-native to Executive Office
… urges them to continue peaceful relationship with natives
His Excellency, Senator Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State today met with stakeholders of non-natives in the State as part of his engagement for his re-election campaign.
The four blocks of the Arewa, Yoruba, Igbos and the South-South non-indigenes were represented by their various leaders including the respective traditional rulers.
Governor Diri, while appreciating them for endorsing him and his running mate for their re-election also urged them to remain peaceful and continue to work in harmony with the natives.
The Governor also promised the non-natives an Executive Office of Commissioner in terms of appointment in his second tenure.
“I think the highest that non-natives had occupied is that of a Senior Special Assistant (SSA) before now but this Government when we were campaigning, we said we are going to give the non-natives the office of Special Adviser.
Now, having made that promise in 2019 and I have implemented it up until today and today that I have met you again I will give you another promise because you are also contributing to the economy of Bayelsa State.
Now, the highest political office in our State here in terms of appointment is the office of a Commissioner, therefore if you support our second tenure and vote massively for us to return the second tenure to Government, I will elevate the appointment of non-natives to an Executive Office. We used to have three Special Duties Commissioners, we are going to increase that number to four Special Duties Commissioners to accommodate the office of Special Duties Commissioner on non-natives so that you can equally be represented at the level of the Bayelsa State Executive Council and that will be in addition to other Special Assistant, and Advisers appointments.
As a Governor, I am a secular Governor even though my religion is Christianity, it doesn’t stop me from allowing others to also worship what they want to worship.
So, I like to commend all of you who are earning a living in Bayelsa State for being very lawful, and peaceful and working in harmony with the natives of Bayelsa State. And I urge you to continue to sustain that peaceful relationship so that our State will see development, “Governor Diri stated.
The Special Adviser on Non-Natives, Mr. Johnson Onuma, led members to appreciate the Governor for providing an enabling environment for their businesses to grow and for the many political appointments handed to non-natives.
