Bayelsa Woman Dies After Allegedly Living With Man Known as ‘Aboki’; Family Demands Justice

By Passman Akpos

The death of a young woman in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has sparked concern among residents, with calls for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her demise.

According to information shared by community member Sowari Francis Peter, the woman, who reportedly lived with a man identified only as “Aboki,” died at First Bossy Water Road in the Tombia area of Yenagoa after allegedly struggling with drug-related issues.

The source alleged that the man had introduced the deceased to illicit drugs during their relationship, although these claims have not been independently verified by authorities. Eyewitnesses were said to have observed the woman in severe distress shortly before her death, describing her as weak, restless, and in urgent need of water.

The report further alleged that the couple had two children together and that one of the children had been taken outside Bayelsa by the man. Additional allegations included claims of threats against the deceased’s relatives and repeated assaults on her mother. These allegations have also not been confirmed by the police or any court.

The incident has generated public concern over drug abuse, domestic violence, and the protection of vulnerable women and children in the state.

Residents have urged the Bayelsa State Police Command and other relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation to establish the cause of the woman’s death, verify the allegations surrounding the case, and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

The tragic incident has also renewed calls for greater public awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, abusive relationships, and the need to protect young women from exploitation, regardless of the background or ethnicity of those involved.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement on the incident.
