BREAKING: Nigerian Army Raises Fresh Terror Alert, Warns Of Planned Attacks On Churches, Schools, NYSC Camps

By Passman Akpos

The Nigerian Army has raised an intelligence alert over alleged plans by terrorist groups to launch coordinated attacks on places of worship, schools, NYSC orientation camps and other vulnerable public locations across parts of the country.

The warning was contained in a letter dated September 9, 2026, obtained by Tarakirivoice, and addressed to the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division Nigerian Army, Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan.

According to the letter, available intelligence indicates an increasing mobilisation of resources and foot soldiers by terrorist groups for possible coordinated attacks “any moment from now.”

The alert specifically identifies parts of the North-East, North-West, North-Central and South-West regions as areas of concern.

Among the locations reportedly identified as potential targets are Catholic and Protestant churches, primary and secondary schools, NYSC Orientation Camps and other vulnerable facilities.

The document further states that intelligence has indicated the movement of scores of armed fighters from Katsina through Kaduna towards Plateau State, raising concerns over possible preparations for attacks.

ISWAP Allegedly Conducting Surveillance

Of particular concern, the Army intelligence report alleges that suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have commenced surveillance and reconnaissance activities around identified targets.

The suspected terrorists are reportedly receiving assistance from local collaborators, according to the document.

The intelligence assessment warns that the alleged activities could represent a transition from terrorist intent to actual preparations for attacks.

Schools Identified As Major Concern

The planned targeting of educational institutions was highlighted as a major security concern in the letter.

The Army reportedly assessed that attacks could coincide with the resumption of schools for the 2026/2027 academic session, when large numbers of students and staff would be concentrated at educational facilities

The intelligence assessment states that the alleged strategy could be aimed at causing mass casualties, generating widespread fear and worsening insecurity ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development has consequently triggered a call for increased security around schools and other potentially vulnerable public locations.

Army Calls For Heightened Vigilance

The letter recommends intensified surveillance and enhanced defensive security around identified targets and other public places. It also directs that the information be treated as requiring further action.

The intelligence warning comes amid persistent concerns over terrorist and bandit activities in several parts of Nigeria and renewed fears about the safety of schools, religious institutions and other locations where large numbers of civilians gather.

Tarakirivoice could not independently verify the specific intelligence contained in the document or determine whether the alleged attacks have been conclusively planned. However, given the seriousness of the allegations and the document’s purported origin within the Nigerian Army, the warning underscores the need for heightened vigilance and appropriate security measures.

Citizens are urged to remain alert, report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies, and avoid spreading unverified information that could cause unnecessary panic.

Tarakirivoice will continue to monitor developments and provide verified updates as more information becomes available.
